Julyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I plan on making more posts to this thing, but don't quote me on that.
This past month has been extremely draining, if in a good way, i'm not sure yet.
I completed 7 paintings for my new show in Queen Anne (of Seattle). Each painting was based on a polaroid I'd take (to the right there should be a link to my flicker account).
The show brought me back to oil paints and prepared me for this rather large commission I'm starting work on this coming week. All in all I'm pretty content with how things turned out. I have one more piece to hang, I'll be doing the line work tomorrow night. Below is the postcard, 8 pictures (in all sorts of lighting situations) of one of the paintings in progress and two shots of the work up at the caffe.

Alright, alright.
This is my new blog.
I've recently given up on the whole myspace blog and found blogspot.com to be much more pleasant to the eye and not blocked on public computers.
If you enjoy my work you may, you just may, like this blog. Here I will post new stuff that I've made, the occasional sketch and plenty o' suggestions in regards to other artists and music. No I won't post a crapload of people you don't know doing dumb stuff at parties, or weddings, or bars, or public parks for that matter. If I know any of the people I write about, they will somehow relate to art.
If you have no clue about my work and what I do, I invite you to my website: www.joeybates.com
To start off I'd like to introduce you to an artist I know here out in Seattle:
Gala Bent
She's currently showing at a caffe I stop by almost every day. I'm obsessed with the fragility of a number of her pieces. The show she currently has up is a series including water and clouds. Her repetitions of line to create the waves and clouds are somehow very calming to me. You can also see her blog here: drifts and scatters
